Conflict is one of those things most of us try to avoid – especially when we’re sober and trying to protect our peace. But avoiding conflict doesn’t make it go away; it just creates more problems and pain that we have to deal with later. In this episode, Julie, Steve, Rachel, and Azure sit down to talk about what healthy conflict looks like in sobriety – and how learning to face it with healthy skills, boundaries, and emotional maturity can actually make sobriety feel like something you want to do, not something you have to do.

They get real about people-pleasing, anxious attachment, overreactions, guilt, and what it means to speak up honestly without losing your cool. You’ll walk away from this one feeling seen, equipped, and encouraged to show up for yourself – even in hard conversations.

In this episode:

  • Why conflict is not a sign of failure – it’s a chance to strengthen relationships
  • The difference between reacting emotionally and responding with intention
  • How sobriety changes the way we handle uncomfortable conversations
  • People-pleasing, anxious attachment, and fear of being rejected
  • The importance of emotional preparation before tough talks
  • How to know when to engage – and when to just let something go
  • Why authenticity sometimes means not being liked by everyone

Conflict is an opportunity to make a relationship better. Every single time.

Azure lives in the PNW with her husband, 2 kids, and their goldendoodle Mumford. She works as a hospice nurse and is extremely passionate about end-of-life care. She has been sober for 2.5 years and is the face behind @sober.chronicles on Instagram. She believes that community and connection are the key to a successful sobriety, and has loved getting to make new sober friends and supporting people from all over the world. She is working on a sobriety e-book and hopes to become a recovery coach in the next few years.

Born in Lubbock, Texas, I embarked on a journey that would lead me to a fulfilling career in nursing and personal growth. I attended Grand Junction High School, where I first discovered my passion for healthcare. This passion continued to flourish as I completed my prerequisites at Adam State College in Alamosa, Colorado, before pursuing nursing school in Iowa. There, I earned my certification as a Forensic and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, equipping me with the skills to support victims and advocate for justice.

With over 31 years as a registered nurse, I currently serve as the Director of Nurses at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department. My career has allowed me to travel across the country as a traveling nurse, where I have gained invaluable experience and insights into the diverse challenges of healthcare.

In my personal life, I am the proud mother of twin sons who reside on the East Coast. One son is currently serving in the military overseas, while the other works for Gulfstream, a major airline company. My hobbies include yoga, paddle boarding, and the unique combination of yoga paddle boarding. Additionally, I am a passionate paranormal investigator and a content creator on Facebook, sharing my experiences and insights with a wider audience.

Having celebrated 11 years of recovery, I find strength and support within the recovery community. My spiritual journey has been profoundly influenced by Buddhism, which has helped me cultivate a deeper connection to myself and others.
